The plant is regulated

The cultivation, sale, possession, and trafficking of cannabis remain prohibited under the Narcotic Drugs (Control) Act, 1976 and its subsequent amendments. International treaty obligations under the 1961 UN Single Convention on Narcotic Drugs also apply. Penalties are real and can be severe. Nothing on this site is a defence, excuse, or workaround in any criminal or civil proceeding.

Historical and ethnographic record only

Where this site describes ritual use, traditional preparation, regional varieties, smuggling routes, or commercial activity, it does so as historical and ethnographic record. Descriptions are not endorsements. References to vendors, shops, festivals, or named people in the past tense do not imply they exist today, nor that any present-day activity they might be associated with is lawful.

Where this site references medicinal, ayurvedic, or therapeutic uses of cannabis or hemp, it does so as a record of cultural belief and historical practice. Considerable care has gone into sourcing. Errors will still creep in. If you find one, the project welcomes a correction. Chapters are revised in place; significant changes are dated.
